Hi, I'm Mike and I'm a blogger and video maker from Hull in the UK.  I'm best known for mediocre quality videos that sometimes involve a vibrating pig

I had the idea for the Travelling Book Project after reading the book "Yes Man" by Danny Wallace.  I would love to do something like Danny did, travelling the world based on an inability to say no, but like many of us I don't have the freedom to take time off work and leave my family to go off an adventure.  And I wouldn't want to.

However, a book could make a journey - around the world, getting contributions from people - and come back to me.

I originally planned to send five books out, reasoning that the odds are that one or more of the books might not make it home.  But, it became clear to me very quickly that there was a lot more demand than for just five books, so I started a fundraising campaign on Indiegogo to fund the project.

The Idea

The project is simple.

A book starts with me, and I write a little bit of information about myself and my life in the book.  I then send the book to another person, and they do the same.  They send it on to a third person, and so on.  And when the book is complete the last person mails to back to me, and I will scan the book and make it available on the Internet for everyone to read.

It's a great way to be creative, to connect with others, to promote understanding, and to learn about the world, not from a website but from the people actually living there (although ironically it will be available on a website!)

There are a few guidelines which I'd recommend people check out here which covers a couple of legal points, some advice on what to put in (and not to put in) the books, and some frequently asked questions.

If you'd like to support the project and receive your own Travelling Book, click on the Donate button at the bottom of this page - £5 (£10 non-UK) reserves you your own book!
